REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ADVENTURER OF THE YEAR
_________________________________
As we have done previously, we will also choose two “Adventurer of the Year” this year, one boy and one girl. The Point System is the method we use to choose the Adventurers of the year. The Greater New York requirements for the Adventurer of the year are already embedded in the Point System.
Here are the requirements:
1.- Attendance of the Annual Greater New York Camporee.
2.- Attendance of the Annual Track and Field Day.
3.- Attendance of the Greater New York Adventurer Day.
4.- Attendance of all the other Special Greater New York Conference events and Jackson Heights Adventurer Club events (weekend/day camp-outs, field trips, outreach projects...)
5.- Demonstrate leadership traits (e.g. in case of an emergency, seeing the need then taking the initiative to help without being told to do so ... )
The kind of leadership traits expected here are far different from the bossing people around. It is the kind of servant-leadership traits that Jesus demonstrated.
6.- Demonstrate good spiritual qualities (e.g. forgiving someone who has just hurt you ...).
7.- Have a full and complete Class A Uniform.
8.- Able to recite and explain the Pledge and the Law.
9.- Demonstrate a normal conduct, behavior, deportment and discipline consistent with the ideals of the Adventurer Pledge and Law.
10.- Being an active member during the current year.
Please do not forget that the only power that can produce these outward qualities is the power of the Holy Spirit. The Word of God declares that it is only after the work of divine grace in the heart of men that genuine obedience can be witnessed. “I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgements, and do them” (Eze. 36.27), “And the Lord thy God will circumcise thine heart, and THE HEART OF THY SEED to love the Lord thy God with thine heart, and with all thy soul that thou mayest live”. (Deut.30.6). The pen of inspiration also remind us that “all true obedience comes from the heart. It was heart-work with Christ. And if we consent, He will so identify Himself with our thoughts and aims, so blend our hearts and minds into conformity to His will, that WHEN OBEYING HIM WE SHALL BE BUT CARRYING OUT OUR OWN IMPULSES.” (Desire of Ages, p.668)
Pray for our children.
